Show Notes
If you are a professional considering a change in your career - and not just a promotion, but a complete industry and functional area change - this is the interview for you to watch!
With a background in career development within higher education and now on the hiring side as the Director of Recruitment and Selection at northwestern Mutual, Jordan Hallow provides a unique perspective to those looking for something new in their career.
We go through all the basic tips for résumé editing and interviewing, but it's Jordan's stance on cover letters that will make you re-think submitting one.
We have a fun time in this interview and share multiple perspectives that will help professionals make decisions about what to do next in their career and how to pursue it.
Jordan is what I would call a location-bound recruiter, which means he is looking for candidates local to his area. This is a great perspective to have on the podcast for those who want to apply for local positions. While a lot of the strategies are similar, there are some nuances - such as the lack of an applicant tracking system.
Please note, this interview was done in late 2021 and as such some references will align with that timeframe.
About Jordan:
With early aspirations of becoming a professional basketball player, Jordan learned that a career isn't always what you expect. This realization led him into a career focused on helping people figure out what they want to do. With a double master's in educational leadership and an MBA, Jordan started in advising and career development before making the jump to recruiting, now leading recruiting efforts for a Northwestern Mutual office in the greater Chicago area.
